SEAMEO STEM-ED, in partnership with the Teachers Council of Thailand (TCT), reiterated its commitment to elevating the teacher professional development system on March 20, 2024, by reinforcing crucial initiatives aimed at improving the quality of teachers and educational personnel across the nation.

At a gathering hosted at TCT (referred to as Kuruspa in Thai), Dr Kessara Amornvuthivorn, Programme Director of SEAMEO STEM-ED, led discussions as the programme development team convened to refine significant collaborative initiatives alongside Asst Prof Dr Amolwan Weerathammo, Secretary-General of The Teachersโ Council, and veteran advisor Assoc Prof Dr Montree Yamkasikorn.

Their discussion encompassed ongoing programmes, particularly the Southeast Asian Teacher Education Programme (SEA-TEP), a collaborative initiative established by SEAMEO STEM-ED, Kuruspa, the Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), with support from Chevron.

This programme aims to enhance the national and regional teacher education and development system, as well as promote instructional reform in universities through the utilization of "core practices". Additionally, they delved into the STEM Quality School programme with the ambitious goal of enhancing school leadership and creating an optimal learning environment conducive to cultivating "a culture of continuous improvement focused on student learning outcomes."

Moreover, they discussed the ASEAN+1 convention, which in the Thai context refers to collaboration between ASEAN member countries and a non-ASEAN partner, aimed at fostering educational exchange and cooperation to address common challenges and opportunities in the region. Lastly, they addressed the forthcoming initiative known as the "Academy of Thailand Teachers," designed to comprehensively build a community of practices led by master teachers, faculty members, and school leaders to provide professional support for strengthening the entire educational management cycle.
