Bangkok, Thailand โ€” SEAMEO STEM-ED invited international participants from the โ€œStrengthening Teacher Education Programโ€ to demonstrate their commitment to advancing pre-service and in-service teacher education, aiming to nurture the most competent teachers โ€” through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 19 July 2023 at Avani Sukhumvit Bangkok Hotel (Bangkok, Thailand).

Pertaining to this MoU, the STEP program was initiated by SEAMEO STEM-ED, Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, the Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), and The Teachersโ€™ Council of Thailand (Kurusapa).

STEPโ€™s mission is to elevate national and regional education standards and thrive for instructional reform in universities. The program undertakes pre-service education reform, deploying "core practices" (practices that identify fundamental components of teaching that teachers enact to support learning) for teaching practicum. In particular, STEP will enhance classroom practices for novice teachers and reinforce attention given to teaching methods.

Regarding its journey, within a year of its inception, STEP has made progress in forming different partnerships with various Thai universities and institutions, as well as international and regional partners.

Today, it has marked another advancement by uniting SEAMEO Regional Open Learning Centre (SEAMEO SEAMOLEC) and Caravan of Knowledge (Republic of Kazakhstan) โ€” signing an MoU that will later implement development plans in their respective countries

As a consequence, SEAMEO SEAMOLEC, which operates in Indonesia and is committed to leveraging the power of education technology in the fields of open and distant learning โ€” will synergize a shared vision in its responsible country and agencies. Nonetheless, Caravan of Knowledge, a passionate educational organization that propels STEAM education in the Republic of Kazakhstan and trains teachers and students with modern world methods, knowledge, and skills โ€” will execute the same operation.

The signing ceremony was also attended by STEP program respective partners, including the Ministry of Education (MOE), Thailand, NXPO, Chevron Corporation, Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkutโ€™s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), and Srinakarinwirot University. From Indonesia, representatives from Raden Fatah State Islamic University (UIN Raden Fatah Palembang), Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta, and Universitas Negeri Sebelas Maret (UNS) โ€” and from Kazakhstan, representatives from the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Ualikhanov University were present.
